This Christmas not all of us are fortunate enough to sit at the Christmas table with our loved ones. Some of us even prefer to spend holidays alone and avoid the holiday stress and someone getting into an argument in the middle of Christmas Eve dinner.
So here’s a list of things you can do to spend lovely Christmas by yourself.
1. Have a self-care day
Imagine this: You get a box of macaroons, put a face mask one and watch Breakfast with Tiffany’s while soaking in a bubble bath. When I put it that way, I almost want to spend Christmas day doing only this.
Customize your day however you want. Maybe throw some pizza into it or glass of wine. Treat. Yo. Self.
2. Cook a meal that you normally wouldn’t
Cooking is often time consuming. Especially if you want to follow a fifty-step recipe that you haven’t tried before. If you’re spending Christmas alone and have all the time to yourself, maybe you can dedicate a day to cooking a delicious meal for one.
If you don’t think you need to spend Christmas day doing anything festive, you can spend the day putting clothes you don’t wear anymore and things you don’t use away for donating. I think it’s important to meet the new year with a clear and clean space. If we are all saying that 2021 is going to be our year, we should at least make an effort and greet it in the right way.
4. Reflect on 2020 and setting goals for the new year
Even though that sounds like a New Year’s Eve activity, there is no rule that you cannot do it earlier. I tried reflecting and set some goals on the previous year during the last day of 2019 and it was honestly pretty fun. Did I reach all the goals I set for 2020? Nah. Half of the credit goes to me not wanting to reach them enough and the other half to the pandemic. But at least writing them down was very uplifting and relaxing. I’ll do it this year as well. Maybe I’ll just set goals that I’m really passionate about.
5. Have a virtual Christmas hangout
If you feel like you need some interaction on Christmas day, you’re certainly not alone. You can meet over zoom with your loved ones and have a virtual Christmas dinner.
You can also try to find other people that are spending Christmas alone. Ask your Instagram followers or people on other social media whether they are up to hang out over zoom or other platform.
What tips do you have for someone who will be spending Christmas alone?
